Shopify Flow is one of the most underused features on Shopify Plus. It's an automation builder that lets you create if-this-then-that workflows without writing code. And for beauty brands, it can save hours of manual work every week.
The problem: most beauty brands either don't know Flow exists, or they set up one basic automation and forget about it. The opportunity is much bigger.
Here are the Flow automations that actually matter for beauty and skincare brands. Each one solves a real operational problem. All of them are Plus-exclusive.
Automation 1: Trial Expiry Notifications
If you're running try before you buy, your customers have a trial window (typically 14 or 21 days) to decide whether to keep or return their products. That trial window is a critical conversion moment.
The automation:
- Trigger: Order tag contains "TBYB" or "trial" AND X days have passed since fulfillment
- Condition: Customer has not yet completed a keep/return action
- Action: Tag the customer for a Klaviyo segment, which triggers a reminder email sequence
Why it matters: Customers forget. Life happens. A well-timed reminder at day 10 of a 14-day trial or day 17 of a 21-day trial can be the difference between a keep and a return-by-default. The reminder isn't pushy; it's helpful. "Your trial period ends in 4 days. Here's how to keep your products."
Beauty-specific note: For skincare trials, consider sending the reminder with usage tips. "Have you been using the serum morning and night? Most customers see results after 10-14 days of consistent use." This reframes the reminder as product education.
