Shopify Wholesale for Beauty Brands: B2B Channel Strategy
Shopify Wholesale for Beauty Brands: B2B Channel Strategy
Most beauty brands start DTC. A Shopify store, some Meta ads, maybe an influencer partnership. Revenue grows. Then the emails start coming in. A boutique spa wants to carry your products. A regional retailer asks about wholesale pricing. A salon chain inquires about bulk ordering.
Suddenly you need a wholesale channel, and the question becomes: do you bolt it onto your existing Shopify store, or do you build something separate?
Shopify Plus has an answer, and it's better than most beauty brand founders expect.
The Old Way Was Painful
Before Shopify Plus launched its native B2B features, beauty brands running wholesale had a few bad options.
Option 1: A separate wholesale website. Build a second store on a subdomain, manage two product catalogs, two inventory systems, two sets of customer accounts. It worked, technically. But every product update, every new SKU, every inventory adjustment had to happen in two places. Brands with 200+ SKUs (common in beauty) spent hours on duplicate data entry.
Option 2: Wholesale apps with workarounds. Apps like Wholesale Club or Bold Custom Pricing layered wholesale functionality on top of a DTC store. Price lists, minimum order quantities, tiered discounts. The problem: these apps were fighting against Shopify's DTC-first architecture. Edge cases were everywhere. A wholesale customer accidentally seeing retail prices. A DTC customer stumbling into a wholesale-only collection. Cart conflicts between retail and wholesale pricing logic.
Option 3: Off-platform wholesale. Run wholesale through a separate system entirely. QuickBooks, a spreadsheet, phone calls, email threads. This is how plenty of beauty brands still do it. It works until it doesn't, and "doesn't" usually arrives around the 20-retailer mark.
Shopify Plus B2B: One Store, Two Channels
Shopify Plus now includes native B2B functionality. Not an app. Not a workaround. A built-in channel that runs alongside your DTC storefront from the same Shopify admin.
